in 221 BCE, he ordered his men to build a new wall to connect the remaining fortifications along the
empire's new northern frontier, in order to protect the empire against intrusions by the
people from the north.
At that time, transporting the large quantity of materials required for construction was difficult,
so Emperor Qin asked a general called Ni Nian to calculate the exact number of bricks needed to complete
building the new wall. Ni was ordered to calculate the number correctly and would be killed if any mistake was
made. Although Ni was good at mathematics, he worried about it a lot.

Early next morning, he paid an on-site visit to the construction site of the new wall. He saw there was an
oval object parking on the ground. He was so surprised and because of curiosity, he walked towards it. When he
got closer, the door of the object opened suddenly. A big beam of Light went into his eyes and a creature came
out from the object. That creature just looked like a human being, but the hair style and clothes that he wore
were completely different from the Qin people.
Ni was a little bit scared and anxious about that creature would hurt him. Then the creature spoke. “Don’t
worry. I am a human being from the future. My name is Lee Nin. I have passed a time channel accidentally
when I rode on my plane and just arrived here. You must be a Qin man.” Lee said. Ni did not fully understand
what Lee was talking about, but he was less anxious after hearing what Lee said. “I see. My name is Ni Nian
and I lived nearby. Do you want to go to my home to take a rest?” Ni asked in reply. “Oh, yes! Thank you for
inviting me to your home. Actually I am tired and hungry now.” Lee told Ni.
They went to Ni’s home together. Ni told Lee about Emperor Qin’s request for calculating the number of
bricks for the new wall. Lee smiled and said, “Don’t worry. I can help you to complete this task!” Then Lee
asked Ni the length, width and height of the new wall that he intended to build as well as the bricks’ sizes. Ni
provided the information to Lee. After that, Lee took out a small machine from his pocket and said, “This is my
calculator. I can get the answer easily by pressing a few keys.” Amazingly, Lee told Ni the answer right
afterwards. Ni was so delighted. He thanked Lee sincerely and treated him a big meal.
The next day, Lee told Ni that he needed to go home. Before he left, he gave the calculator to Ni as gift. Ni
was very happy that he had a secret weapon that he could complete any calculation very quickly and accurately
in the future.
